application matters for foreign students
Important Notes
Application Period
Foreign student applications are accepted from the month of June onwards, for admission in the following school year beginning in January.
Closing Date for Submission of Application

The closing date for the submission of application for a particular year is 31 May of that year.

The processing of each application takes an average of 4 to 6 weeks.

If the foreign student is unable to obtain a confirmed vacancy by 30 June, the admission will be for the following school year beginning in January.
Donation to the Education Fund
Generally, a foreign student is requested to make biennial donations (that is, payable once every two years) to the Education Fund of the Ministry of Education if his/her application to study in Singapore is approved. Starting from January 2000, biennial donations are at the flat rate of S$1,000 for every two years of study and are applicable to foreign students of all nationalities who seek admission to schools, junior colleges and centralised institutes.
Particulars of a Guardian
The foreign student is required to provide the particulars of his/her guardian for contact purposes. The guardian should be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, above 21 years of age and should normally be the person whom the foreign student is lodging with.
Assessment Tests
The foreign student will be given assessment tests in English, Mathematics and Mother Tongue Language (where applicable).

The tests are conducted by the school which the foreign student is seeking admission to.

A Centralised Qualifying Test, administered by the MOE, is mandatory for students seeking admission to the top schools in Singapore.
Level of Admission
Besides the performance in the School Assessment Tests and the Centralised Qualifying Test, foreign students will be considered for admission to a level subject to documentary proof that he/she has completed the previous level, and subject to the age criteria for the level of admission.
Schedule for the Centralised Qualifying Tests
A schedule of the dates for the sitting of the Centralised Qualifying Test is given in the Centralised Qualifying Test Form. A student is allowed to sit for the Centralised Qualifying Test only once. A test fee of S$20.00 in cash, is payable at the time of application and it is not refundable.
